We made the cutest heart-shaped waffles for a Valentine’s Day breakfast idea. We made two different versions, a paleo-friendly waffle, and a whole-grain waffle. With our little mini waffle maker, these were a fun activity and both versions turned out delicious. Come check out how to create these fun, heart-shaped waffles for Valentine’s Day!
We have been at home with COVID and quarantining for several days now. With Valentine’s Day approaching, I thought we could use a fun Valentine baking activity to enjoy making and eating together. I found this really cute mini-heart waffle maker and knew that these would be the perfect thing to make.
Some of us are trying to eat more paleo-friendly recipes in the new year, while others are not. So we simultaneously made two different versions of these heart-shaped waffles for Valentine’s Day breakfast ideas. The mini-heart waffle maker comes with some recipes, but we used our own version of those with what we had on hand around the house.
The paleo waffles were made from bananas, SF maple syrup, vanilla, gluten-free flour, and baking powder. We topped the paleo waffles with cool whip, strawberries, and blueberries. You could also use sugar-free chocolate chips as another topping choice. They turned out fluffy and tasted delicious!
For the whole-grain waffles, we used the Kodiak brand waffle mix and followed the recipe on the box for classic waffles. For these, we added several drops of red food coloring to the batter. I think ours didn’t turn out truly pink or red because of the mix being whole grain.
For these, we added popsicle sticks to the bottom of the heart. Do this while they are still warm. Then, once they cooled off, we spread vanilla frosting on half of the waffle and then topped it off with some sprinkles. Again, you can use any topping! Mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips, and cinnamon hearts would all be great, just to name a few.
These were so much fun to do today. They were a Valentine’s Day breakfast idea that really gets your kids involved. The possibilities are endless on what you can do with them. Now it’s your turn to give it a go and get creative.
