DIY Patriotic Door Basket

Farmhouse style Patriotic door basket

While I love a wreath for our door, I also enjoy using a hanging basket. I wanted to add something festive for Memorial Day weekend and have it to use again for the 4th of July.

So, I created a patriotic door basket in under 20 minutes and with only a few supplies!

Directions for the DIY Patriotic Door Basket

Gather your supplies and begin with tying twine to the back of your wall basket to create a way to hang it on your door. I simply lopped a piece of twine through the hardware on the back of the basket and tied a knot to secure it in place.

Next, I used two of the eucalyptus hanging bushes and bent the bottom of the stems to shorten the length. Then, I stuffed them into the basket, creating a draping look over the front of the basket.

Basket with greenery on the door, and next add the flags!

At this point, it is easiest to hang the basket on your door and add the flags while it’s hanging.  That way you can get a better perspective of how it looks!

There is no hardcore rule for placing the flags in the basket, but I do think it’s helpful to place the larger flags in the back first. Then add the smaller flags towards the front.

Protip: Keeping the flags standing up straight rather than leaning or going to the side, creates a fuller and streamlined look. You can also use floral foam if it is a high traffic area and flags may shift over time.

Lastly, and this is optional, you can add some Americana picks to the center of the smaller flags.  It adds a little sparkle and fun to the basket.
