Do you and your family have an Advent calendar that you do each December? Having an Advent calendar is something worthwhile, as it helps prepare our hearts and homes for Christmas. Some Advent calendars are reusable while others are meant to be used one season. This DIY Advent calendar is one that you can make this season and enjoy it.
We are always looking for ways to incorporate the story of Jesus’ birth into our homes during Christmas time, and this is definitely one way to do that. These brown bags each hold verses relevant to the Christmas narrative. I know our children will enjoy taking turns reading the verses from day today. Come check out how to make this fun daily Advent calendar.
First, make a template of your design on your board. I did 4 rows of 5 bags and 1 row of 4 bags. I did fold my bags in half to fit on this board. Of course, if you use a bigger board, you may not have to fold your bags in half.
Second, stretch your baker’s twine across your board, creating space for the number of rows you’ve accounted for. Place a dot of hot glue on each side of the board to hold the twine in place.
Next is the fun part! Place one scripture slip into each bag and clip each bag to the twine. You may have to move the bags around a few times to get them evenly spaced out or the look you prefer. Isn’t it fun to see how the Advent calendar is coming together?
Lastly, I added a sprig of faux greenery to each clothespin. It gave it a holiday feel! Plus, I enjoy incorporating greenery into my seasonal decor, especially at Christmas.
Now you get to enjoy the countdown to Christmas with this Advent calendar you created for you and yours. There are so many ways to create Advent calendars, and so have fun creating creative if you want to let your imagination roll. Are you ready to get started?
