Yesterday was the first day of fall, and here in Alabama we even had some slightly cooler weather to get excited about these beautiful days ahead. Fall is my favorite time to be outdoors here in Alabama, it doesn’t really get cold typically until December so we love being outside during these couple of months. And, I couldn’t be more excited about creating cozy fall outdoor spaces for us to enjoy together.

This quick guide on creating cozy outdoor spaces to enjoy this fall is part of the seasonal simplicity series hosted by Krista over at The Happy Housie. Once you get to the end of this guide, be sure to check out all the gorgeous fall outdoor space inspiration shared by several other bloggers. Now, let’s get started!

We have a few outdoor spaces that I do not share as much because they are off to the side of our home but I wanted to try my hand at adding some easy fall touches to them this fall. This little gate leads to our back patio area where we have string lights and a place to enjoy sitting around a fire pit. I simply added this wreath onto the door and placed a tall lantern with battery powered candles to create a warm glow and inviting entrance to this space. An orange pumpkin stands on its own, and is a nice splash of fall color here.

Around the gated area is a nice space that backs up to woods. I knew that it would be fun to set up some fall pieces around a little sitting area there on the grass. It doesn’t take a lot to create a fall space like this! By using both faux and real pumpkins, it instantly felt more fall like.

I also added some other textures to this space, giving it a lived in feel which to me feels cozy. This basket, an additional tall lantern with battery powered candles, a chunky knit throw (similiar one found here), and these fall pillows completed this fall outdoor space. Coziness also is based on how well a space functions for it’s intended use and by having comfortable pillows and blankets to keep you warm, it meets that goal!

So, when creating a cozy outdoor space for fall, keep these things in mind:

  1. Add a glow! You can use string lights, battery powered wire lights and/or candles, fire pits, and real candles.

  2. Mix and match pumpkins! You can use real and faux to give it a full look, but also a budget friendly option. Sticking to all one color or using many different colors is personal preference.

  3. Provide comfortable seating! You can provide outdoor furniture with cushions to sit on, pillows for people to rest their backs against and oversized poufs!

  4. Stay warm! With blankets and fire pits, you will enjoy lingering outdoors for these beautiful fall days and evenings.
