I am so excited to announce my participation as a guest in this fall’s One Room Challenge! It happened rather quickly, as I was talking with another blogger friend of mine last week and she mentioned how she was participating in it. It got my creative juices flowing, and here we are one week later ready to tackle a space that has been needing addressing for three years now! Before I walk you through our “before” and the plan for the space I’ll be transforming, you can go here to check out all the participants for this challenge. It’s going to be fun joining alongside so many creative and talented other blogger friends!
Let’s first walk through the before of this space. We moved into our home over five years ago, which has a large room over our garage (used as a media room by the previous owners). About three years ago, my oldest daughter moved into this space for her room. We had plans ever since then to transform this ample 18 x 23-foot space into two different areas, with one side being her bedroom and the other side a cozy den for everyone to enjoy. As you can see, it is still one big space with no real design plan and outdated and mismatched furniture. It just doesn’t function as we had initially intended it.
What better time than now to get this project finally going?! Nothing like a challenge to light a fire under you haha! Over the next six weeks, our mission is to create a lovely and cozy teen bedroom for my daughter and a separate den for her friends and also our other children to hang out and watch movies, play games, or host friends.
We will first have the wall built to create the two different spaces (we are contracting this job out). After the wall is built, we will plan to refresh the paint and (fingers crossed) the flooring too. Next up, we will add things like rugs, new lighting, window treatments, and furniture. Towards the end, we will add the finishing touches and reveal within six weeks these rooms to you!
In the words of my daughter, here are her room goals: “I don’t like how dark my space is right now, I would like a lighter space (preferably white). I really want a hanging chair, the kind that hangs from the ceiling. I would love to have a large mirror, maybe the kind with lights around it. For the walls, I love a picture wall, but not with pictures of me but instead vintage style pictures. I love my current cozy rug.”
The collage above is a Pinterest inspiration board for her room goals. I really like it, do you? I love how casual, yet lovely it all looks. These photos get me excited to get started in her room. As far as specifics on the den space? We either want the sofa to be a pull-out (for spend the night guests) or one that reclines. It will have a TV, rug, and window treatments.
I plan to work with several companies that can help sponsor this challenge. I will be sharing along the way which companies those are, and what they contributed. For items that are not sponsored, we will be working on finding budget friendly options that I will also link for you along the way. Thank you so much for joining me in this challenge. You will have so much watching all the other participants as well here. Now, let’s get started!
One last look below at where it all starts! Cannot wait to tackle this transformation!
