We are so excited to be experiencing some cooler temps here in Birmingham, Alabama lately. This past weekend was the perfect time to visit a local favorite nursery to shop around for some outdoor fall decor for our front porch and door areas.
Welcome to our home!
They had a huge assortment of pumpkins, mums, and other seasonal elements perfect for an outdoor space.
Enjoyed visiting Leaf & Petal in Birmingham, Alabama.
A cozy look is easily achieved outside when you follow the steps I am sharing in this post today. You want it to look cohesive but also have various layers, textures, and an overall welcoming feel for your family and guests who come to visit.
First, I decided on the plants I wanted to use in this outdoor space. Plants immediately add a cozy touch.
I wanted to have taller plants for the planters, and the more full round look that is the mums in baskets for this Fall. I love the look of outdoor plants in baskets!

Second, add seasonal vegetables like pumpkins and gourds. I used the 60-30-10 rule when choosing my pumpkins; 60% white, 30% muted oranges/greens, and 10% bright orange. It’s a great way to balance your color palette.
Creating little pockets of these gathered, mixed pumpkins creates a warm, inviting look.

Third, have a seasonal, welcoming doormat. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how much I love to layer my doormats. You can check out my spring looks here.
Layering is another cozy decor technique.

Fourth, use baskets! Farmhouse style leans into a cozy, time-worn look and baskets are just that!
These oversized baskets I already had on hand, and you can just line with large, yard plastic bags.

Protip: Every few days, set your mum’s planter inside a water bucket for the roots to soak up the water for 30 minutes. It helps to keep them alive and blooming beautifully.

Now, enjoy a warm cup of coffee in this cozy outdoor space! I found the best thing speaking of coffee…a subscription box that delivers fresh, high-quality coffees to your door! Head here to grab your first box for $5!! I know you’ll love it as much as I do.
Cheers for a beautiful time of year, watching the changing leaves of Fall and enjoying cooler evenings.
