After completing two rounds of the 100-mile challenge in thirty days, I am excited to share with you my experience.  I talk about tips, tricks, and overall feedback on this challenge.

Morning coffee before exercising!

Back in May of this year, I was talking with my best friend from college, and she mentioned how she was doing a fitness challenge, where you commit to running/walking 100 miles in 30 days.  I was very intrigued by this concept and decided this was the challenge I’d been needing to get myself back on a regular exercise plan. And, let me just say, it did the trick and I can’t wait to share so many tips, tricks, and more in this post.

Committing to 100 miles in 30 days breaks down to 3.33 miles/day, 7 days a week.

The first thing you need to know is that it is a big commitment! I found that on the days you could go farther than 3.33, go for it! Because there are days like for me this morning, where I only hit 3.2 miles.  So, some days I’ll go 5-6 miles, while other days I will go less than 3.33 or designate a day off if I’ve built up a mile reservoir on those longer days.

Finding a pair of good running shoes is key!

I highly recommend these running shoes! They come in a variety of colors and also have a men’s option.  My husband gives them two thumbs up as well (he actually recommended them to me!).

Listening to music, audiobooks, podcasts can make your exercise time feel like it’s going by faster!

I use my husband’s AirPods, and typically crank up worship music.  I recently shared a worship playlist here, that’s goal was to offer hope! My friend listens to podcasts and my husband listens to audiobooks; find what works for you.

Drink lots of water!

I realize this one is probably not a surprise, but it is something that is essential and has been a secondary benefit of starting this challenge.  I had really been slacking on water consumption and with an increase in exercising it automatically leads to an increase in daily water intake. I have this amazing water bottle coming in the mail soon…talk about accountability!

Prep the night before!

I am an early morning runner typically.  But even so, whether you are running in the mornings, afternoons, or evenings always make sure you have your exercise gear ready to go.  The biggest way to lose motivation is to not have things clean or ready to go when it is time. Speaking of clean, I cannot recommend this laundry detergent enough…it will wipe away any smells from your athletic gear.

Your form doesn’t have to be perfect or look like a professional!

If you were to see me on some mornings running, you’d probably think, “Whew! She needs to go sit down!” Haha! But guess what: fitness isn’t a beauty contest! Who cares what you look like as long as you’re making the commitment to improve your health. Just start! Move! Put one foot in front of the next. Get your miles in for the day, even if it is not so pretty haha.

This 100-mile challenge in 30 days is something that has made a huge difference in my overall mental, spiritual, and of course physical well-being. Why not ask a family member or friend to join you? Or join a community where you will have accountability and encouragement to stay the course!

I have been so grateful to have my husband, social media community, and a weekly walking buddy be there for me as I’ve made these changes.  Having them to encourage you is the best motivation to keep going!

Some of the 100 miles in 30 days benefits I’ve experienced:

  1. Physically stronger. By month 2, I was able to run up some of the hills I was unable to in the first month.
  2. Increase in energy
  3. Weight loss
  4. Increase in self-confidence
  5. Lower stress levels
  6. A positive role model for teen daughters with taking back my health

I hope you feel motivated to give this challenge a go! It has so many positives to it, and I am pulling for you if it is something you end up doing.
