“A good first impression can work wonders.”-J.K. Rowling

I read this quote and loved it! Not only is it true of face-to-face interactions, but I find it relevant for our homes as well. Each season, I enjoy trying to create that feeling for family and friends that come to our home. This bright wreath (you can find it here) and happy door mat are the perfect combination to give off a welcoming first impression of our home.

Last summer, I shared this foyer and entryway in a post found here. I’ve added some fun blue-ticking pillows (found here) perfect for summer and a lightweight blanket. I like the “less is more” look for summer. Also, I added splashes of yellow with a lemon wreath I made from a garland. It is easy to just take the two ends of a garland you may already have on hand and create a circle, wrapping each end under the other. I shared how to style a summer mantel in three easy steps here, that also utilizes lemons, woods, and whites.

Summer greenery brings life to any space in your home. For this arrangement, I simply cut low hanging branches from the trees in our woods and placed them in a clear jar. Easy and free is always a win, right? With the addition of a white bead garland placed atop a wood slice, you achieve textures that are both bright and light weight for the summer months.

Moving into our kitchen, I decided to add more citrus colors there, and was inspired by this orange wreath. It just looked so happy and was the perfect size to be placed atop our stove hood. The colorful stockpot and tea kettle have stayed out through the spring months and are remaining here for now too. They not only add some color but we also use them regularly! Adding some black and white to our floor through this geometric rug grounded the sink area and gave a differing yet offered a complimentary pattern to the florals in the space.

I recently organized our fridge and freezer (you can find all the details of this project here). One of the pieces we found was this water dispenser that I couldn’t wait to have for the summer months with our children being home more. I knew that fresh lemonade would be a great way to keep us cool for the summer and sit pretty atop our counters during the day. My daughter loves slicing the lemons to add even more taste to our lemonade and enjoys how it add to it’s overall pretty look!

A summer table does not have to be complicated! Simply layer a linen place mat, light wood charger, and white dinnerware, then top off with a linen napkin and rattan napkin ring. This keeps it casual yet is summer classic. I simply used another strand of lemon garland as my easy table centerpiece. The finishing touches included candles and faux greenery.

Whites, woods, and splashes of citrus colors can create a warm and welcoming home for the summer months. Utilizing greenery you already have on hand for bringing life into your home is free and easy! Creating ambiance with light layers including lines, blue ticking fabrics, and having on hand a glass of cold lemonade are sure to make your family and friends smile when they are in your home.
