How I Solved My Mantle Decorating Dilemma For Christmas

I wish I could say that we have a perfectly cordless mantle, but we do not.  Our TV is above our fireplace area and because we ended up hanging it ourselves, we were not able to hide all the cords running from our TV to the outlets.

So, my dilemma was how to decorate in and around those cords to make my fireplace Christmas festive and not be distracted by the electronics.

One of the first things I did was to minimize the cords space they covered as much possible by tapping them together with non-sticky tape (you can use painter’s tape, zip ties, etc.). Then, I started with the bulkiest piece I could use, which was fresh garland. The garland I chose was a pine with white cedar mix. This garland instantly helped!

Next, I worked to fill in the holes with my medium size décor pieces. I used these cute mini white houses (you can find those here). I staggered them in height to add a little more layering, which I love. I had planned to use mini cake stands, but ended up using what I had; my everyday cups. They worked perfectly and were free!

Finally, I added some ornaments for a splash of red (if you took my Christmas blog tour here, I talked about how my color palette for Christmas was neutral with pops of rad). It’s important to think about cohesiveness throughout your rooms. So adding the red ornaments allowed the red to make its appearance (in a small way, which I wanted) on the mantle.

The finished product worked! The layers of the garland, varying heights of the mini houses, and the finishing touch of ornaments did the trick. No visible cords and a festive, Christmas mantle complete!
