This past weekend my husband and I (plus a little help from our children) pulled out several Christmas decoration boxes and trees from our basement and closets to begin decorating for this cheerful holiday season. My husband is the strength behind lifting, hanging, and setting up things, while I create and place things around our spaces. Our teamwork worked well, as we made great headway on getting our home ready for the holidays!

One of my favorite places to decorate seasonally is our living room. We recently updated our mantel and fireplace by adding shiplap above it and painting our tile white. You can read all about it here.

I was so excited about starting in this space, especially having some wonderful pieces from Balsam Hill to jump start this space’s inspiration. I wanted our holiday living room to reflect farmhouse style. I envisioned lots of full greenery with lights, plus functional pieces that add texture and a cozy feel. This year, I opted for splashes of red amidst our neutral decor. Balsam Hill offered many gorgeous options, and I can’t wait to share how the pieces from Balsam Hill laid the groundwork for our holiday living room for this year.

Greenery With Lights

The frosted Fraser fir garland that I draped across our mantel is not only pre-lit with battery-pack lights (that you can also set on a timer!), it is uniquely stunning. It goes hand-in-hand with the wreath as well. Both pieces look fresh from the forest and I couldn’t be more happy with how they look. The cute balsam fir tabletop tree was the perfect size to sit next to our large woven basket. It adds a warm and cozy glow to our fireplace area.

Functional Seasonal Pieces

“The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.” What’s a fireplace without stockings for Christmas? These chunky knit stockings from Balsam Hill were love at first site for me. The texture was perfect for our farmhouse holiday look and they were a soft edition to the linear fireplace. I can’t wait to see what Santa will fill these with on Christmas morning!

Splashes Of Rustic And Red

I have a weakness for large, found (or looks-like-it-was-found haha) and rustic pieces. I love using unique seasonal items like this sled that is leaning against our fireplace area. It gives our hearth that time worn and tattered look I love so much in our home. The nostalgic feeling is all around at Christmas time and what better piece than to have a wooden sled bring that to life!

With our greenery set, stockings hung, and large pieces in places, it’s time to add all the icing on the cake! Off to add the ornaments, ribbons, and more. I hope you enjoyed our holiday housewalk with Balsam Hill!
