I love to add layers in my farmhouse décor! Most recently, it was in the form of rugs. I received a new jute rug from Rugs USA and had plans of layering it on top of our sisal one for an updated and elevated look in our living room. I knew that a smaller rug on top of the larger one would also help define the sitting area even better than just the large one.
As you can see from the picture above, the new rug sits proportionally atop the larger one that is on the bottom. And, I did choose to keep it neutral and just vary the type of fiber of the rugs.
Layering rugs doesn’t require some fancy formula, but rather it can be done in varying ways and styles that can be pleasing to the eye. Whether you place them diagonally, mix textures, or have several layers it’s sure to add enhanced dimension to your space.
Prefer more color and pattern with your layering? Here are two beautiful examples of layering patterned rugs on top of a natural fiber rug.
In the photo below you can see rugs on the diagonal, pattern play, and multiple rug textures!
I hope you can see how this technique can instantly update and elevate your current space.
