Farmhouse Home Decor for Summer

Hi, friends! I’m so happy you’re here! If you are coming from my friend, Chelsea over at Two Twenty One, welcome! Isn’t her home tour so lovely? This home tour is hosted by my friend Krista over at The Happy Housie. Throughout this week, there are a total of 30 bloggers sharing their summer home tours as a part of the Seasonal Simplicity series. Thank you, Krista, for hosting such a fantastic blog hop, full of inspiration!

I am starting this farmhouse style summer home tour here at our front door. I already had these layered mats and was loving the navy color for summer. You can find these layered mats and other neutral options here. By adding the dragon wing red begonias, I created an all-around red, white, and blue look. I just love it. By the way, these kinds of begonias are great for those who may not have the greenest thumb (like me, haha!), and they grow really big. Love them!

To round out the summer feel, and with the 4th of July right around the corner, I added some large USA flags from the Dollar Tree to each planter. Speaking of the planter, my husband DIY-ed these amazing criss-cross planters, and we have a full tutorial on how you can make them HERE!

As you step inside our front door, this is a view into our entryway/foyer area. Our home is an open concept, so to your left is our living room. It was important to me to have a foyer area even with an open concept home, so adding a rug, bench, and other elements to this space helped define it as a separate “space.”

You may notice that I also added some patriotic touches with smaller flags here in my crocks, as well as this faux fern you can find here. Faux greenery is a big part of how I change my decor seasonally. It’s budget-friendly, and having plants/greenery in your home is in line with a modern farmhouse style.

Jute rugs are my favorites, especially for summer! This fringe runner is favorite of the She Gave It A Go community, as well as this one here that is larger area rug on the right of the photo above.

Adding black and white pieces such as the framed photos of our children (you can find them HERE) bring a personal touch to spaces in your home. Also, the large “It Is Well” canvas found here is another example of black and white design elements with words that are encouraging and reflective of a farmhouse look.

The use of navy as an accent color continues into the entryway with these striped pillows on our entryway bench. Having a bench is part of what defines this space, and allows an additional seating area when guests come to visit. The baskets hold things such as extra blankets, but could also be used for shoe storage. The vintage pillow is a nod to a time-worn look, which defines much of the farmhouse style.

I am so excited to share with you these next views because we got this gorgeous new sign, “These Are The Good Old Days,” just in time for this tour. With four children, my husband and I just keep saying how these childhood/teen years with them are simply some of the best days of our lives. We cherish them, and couldn’t love these words in our home anymore to represent this time in our lives.

These Are The Good Old Days sign details:

  • Words: Black

  • Background: White Aged

  • Frame Color: Dark Stain

On each side of the sign, I kept it relatively simple, adding a white vessel with faux stems plus a glass jar on one side. On the other, two large wooden candlesticks with white pillar candles. An oversized basket (similar one here) with pillows sits to the left of the fireplace, while one of my favorite faux plants found here inside a larger planter sits to the right.

I love adding glass jugs and vases around our home to bring another texture to spaces, especially during the summer months. The reflection nature is bright and airy, without feeling heavy. I stuck two more American flags in this large vase. Mirrors can have the same effect in spaces, bringing light to corners and making spaces also feel more expansive.

You can see how the black and white scheme is repeated in this corner of our dining room. I love these framed art prints of each of our four children’s birth dates. You can find these HERE. Another faux plant (found here) flanks this corner, sitting inside a seagrass basket, perfect for summer!

DIY dropcloth curtains are great for your farmhouse home decor that is very budget-friendly! Simply measure the length and width of your windows, grab some dropcloths (you can find mine here), and clip them to rings like these. If the “panel” is too long, you can fold the fabric over at the top and create a “ruffled” look or turn the material to the back for a more simple look.

Several items I use on our tabletops are corraled on trays like the one above or on wooden pedestals. It’s a great way to add some height and help ground the grouping that you are sitting atop the table. I then placed a simple pottery piece filled with faux eucalyptus stems. I love this summer runner I found here, and it rounds out this relaxed, everyday look for summer.

Great decorating ideas for summer! I love the jute rug in your living room! I have a large rug in my living room as well, but with 3 pets it is always dirty… so I feel like it makes the rest of the room look not put together. I have even tried professional rug cleaners and DIY solutions. How do you keep your rug looking so clean and nice?
