I have been wanting to try my hand at white washing terra cotta pots and having some leftover white paint from a recent painting project, was a perfect time! This DIY is so easy and affordable. I love how the white wash created an aged and textured look that is inline with farmhouse style. Your blooms will look lovely in them this spring!

How to Make DIY White Washed Terracotta Pots

I have always loved the look of white washed terra cotta pots and wanted to give this DIY a go! What better time than spring to try this out, when adding blooms both inside and outside are in full swing. I am happy to say that this was one of the easiest DIYs I have done, and they turn out beautifully! Plus, at the end of this post, several of my blogger friends are sharing their spring DIYs and crafts too. I know you will find lovely inspiration from these! Let’s go!

Supplies for your White Washed Terracotta Pots:

1. Terra Cotta Pots

2. White Paint

3. Paint Brush

4. Cup (paint cup or any plastic cup)

5. Paper Towels

The supplies are ones that you may already have on hand! I had recently painted my middle daughter’s room with Sherwin Williams Extra White and had some leftover. So, the only thing I was missing was the terra cotta pots which I found at JOANN. With the coupon, I think I paid under $8 for 5 pots! Grab your white paint and pour it into a cup (I had this paint cup on hand). Less is more with this project! Then you are going to want to water it down; while I do not have an exact ratio, aim for a consistency that is not watery but definitely not thick!

The easiest way to paint these pots, is to place your hand inside of them and grab your brush! Start painting around the entire pot, starting from the top to the bottom of the pot. Tip: stay moving in the same direction with your paint brush strokes. You will then immediately wipe off the paint also in the same direction (left to right or up and down) with your paper towels. Wipe until your liking, but it does dry fast once you start wiping.

Once you’ve finished the outside of the pot, you will want to paint the upper rim of the inside of the pots. This will allow the “look” to be continued on if your plants do not completely fill in the top of the pot. I went about 1/3 of the way down on all my pots and just painted then wiped with a paper towel again.

And, you are done! White washing all five of these pots took under 20 minutes. It truly is an easy and affordable springtime DIY!
