We just wrapped up a 7-day family vacation to Jackson Hole, Wyoming (including a day trip to Yellowstone). From the moment we arrived, at the moment we left, and everything in between, this summer trip was amazing. Having taken three teen girls and one elementary-aged son, you can be at ease that your teens (and other kiddos) will make memories with the suggestions I am offering in this post.
And, don’t miss at the end of this post, our exact and downloadable itinerary plus what to pack for summer travel in Jackson Hole.
We loved kicking off our trip with this beautiful hike! It exposed our children immediately to the beauty that is all around the Tetons. You will simply head to Jenny Lake Park to get started on this experience. There is a ferry you can take across the lake which is where we started.
Then we hiked to Paradise Falls and Inspiration Point, then on the lower path back to the ferry starting point. The scenery is spectacular and will not soon forget the fall in particular.
The Jackson Hole Rodeo is so much fun! They were offering the rodeo only on Wednesday and Saturday evenings this summer, and so I recommend checking the schedule and availability when you travel to not miss it. The rodeo clown was very entertaining, and the music was fun too. Of course, our children loved seeing their first rodeo which this one has it all (i.e., bareback riding, bull riding, barrel racing, etc.)
Lining up a horseback riding trip in this majestic part of the country is a must! Our family chose to go through Spring Creek Ranch and it was top-notch in customer service and you couldn’t bet the scenery we experienced on our ride. There are tons of options available in Jackson Hole for horseback riding, even overnight pack trips in the Tetons.
We loved the wildflowers all around us this time of year. Everywhere you looked was beautiful!
We learned that wildlife activity can be best experienced in the evenings, thus, we highly recommend a dusk tour. Our wildlife tour was a blast in an open-air jeep and a high-energy and informative tour guide.
Being on the lookout with binoculars at all times, we got to see so many cool animals! On our tour, we saw moose, elk, deer, antelope, and more! We went through Brushback Tours for this tour and our 1-day Yellowstone tour.
You can’t come to Jackson Hole, Wyoming during the summer and not spend some time in beautiful Yellowstone. We booked a 12-hour tour for our time in Yellowstone. It is such a huge park that we felt this was the best way to knock out so many wonderful must-sees and have a guide so our children could learn all about these beloved natural attractions.
We happened to be at one of the hot springs when a group of bison crossed very closely by. You will definitely see wildlife here too! Though it was a 12-hour tour, the day went by so fast and we felt it was a great decision to do it this way.
This is the road with the famous old barn and Grand Teton mountain range behind it. You can see in the photo above what I mean. Our teen girls loved this spot as the perfect photo op.
The views of the Tetons are incredible here. We also ended up having the best time watching the little ground animals run around and come in/out of their holes. It is a peaceful spot, and worth going to.
This was an immediate top favorite for our family! Whitewater rafting down the Snake River in Jackson Hole offers incredible scenic views, and to me, the just-right amount of rapids to navigate.
We chose to go with Dave Hansen Rafting company and had a great experience with our guide and overall time in the water. They also provided wetsuits (which I highly recommend) for your whitewater rafting time. We had so much fun doing this together!
Now I am going to share with you our full itinerary. You can download it for FREE as well! Don’t miss the other details of our trip like where we ate, additional activities we did, and where we grocery shopped.
Wondering what to pack for a trip like this? The mornings and evenings can be cool, while the days in the summer can get pretty warm.
