Our family vacation in Colorado will be forever remembered as a fantastic time! We have three teen girls and one elementary-aged son, so you can be at ease that your family will make memories with the suggestions I am offering in this post. Come check out this quick guide to a family vacation in Colorado!
We just returned from a fabulous family vacation in Colorado and Utah. I will be publishing a guide soon on Utah recommendations, so stay tuned! And don’t miss at the end of this post, my travel essentials from Amazon.
During our 5 days in Colorado, we stayed in Breckenridge and Durango.
This quick guide features the best of the best on where to stay, what to do, and where to eat when visiting Breckenridge during the summer months, as well as a brief overview of Durango at the end.
We stayed at beautiful Grand Colorado on Peak 8 in Breckenridge for three nights. This resort is truly a destination that has activities, restaurants, and lovely accommodations our entire family loved! If you wanted, you’d never have to leave the premises, as it has it all!
Our favorite parts had to be the indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs (they even have cozy robes to walk around in), Epic Discovery Park (I’ll share more on that below), watching the sunset behind the mountains from our balcony, and the cozy beds.
Our 2-bedroom residence was so spacious, including a living room area and a fully stocked kitchen. It truly functioned like a home away from home.
As I mentioned above, you can find plenty to do at Grand Colorado, including Epic Discovery Park! Our family (younger and older children + parents) had a blast!
We enjoyed the Alpine Slide, Bungee Trampoline, Gold Runner Coaster, and the Climbing Wall. You can easily spend a full day doing these activities! Check out a fantastic deal HERE.
My favorite part? The chair lift up the mountain (it takes you to the climbing wall and other activities). Be prepared for spectacular views and cooler temps at the top!
There are also tons of hiking trails at the top of the mountain, we’ll have to come back and do those next time!
If you want to head into town from Grand Colorado, it’s simple! You can either catch a shuttle (which runs frequently) or ride the gondola.
We utilized both forms of transportation, but loved the gondola the best!
In town, we discovered the Riverwalk area and there are tons of cute shops to check out.
My favorite shops were Marigold’s Farmhouse Funk & Junk, The Clothing Cooperative (a brand name consignment store!), and Downstairs at Eric’s.
Breckenridge has tons of outdoor activities including nature trails, hiking, lakes, and horseback riding! All so beautiful during the summer months.
We had so much delicious food in Breckenridge, and below were are favorites:
Again, when staying at Grand Colorado, you have access to a fully stocked kitchen and there are grills located outside by the hot tubs.
We absolutely loved Durango too! Our best recommendation on what to do is the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. The day we spent on this train was magical!
The train ride winds through some of the most majestic scenery in the world. It is a 3-hour train ride, and we enjoyed having the guidebook they offer along the way.
We stayed at the Doubletree Durango which is conveniently by Albertson’s (grocery store and it has a Starbucks in it!). It is an older hotel, but right on the river and very nice!
It has a fabulous pool, and restaurant out back by the river.

Do you have to be staying at the grand colorado to use the outdoor pool or the chair lift?
thank you
Hi there!
Great question, the outdoor pool is for those staying at Grand Colorado, but the chair lift is included in the Epic Park pass so you do not have to be staying there. Thus, anyone can come and get passes for the Epic park area and all of its activities.
I hope you get to visit, it’s amazing!
Warmest,
Brendt
Your trip looks amazing, Brendt! I’ve never vacationed in Colorado before and now I’m adding it to my “must do” list. Pinned so I know what to do when we go!
