By simply using Rust-Oleum’s newest spray paint, Stops Rust Heritage, on our outdoor wood porch swing, we can confidently say that it revamped and is now protecting it from future corrosion. The ease of this project made it do-able in an afternoon, and by the evening our swing project was complete. Just follow our steps to quickly protect and renew your outdoor furniture too!

As you can see, our porch swing was white when we started this project. The up close view shows how the wood had been corroded by weather and use. This swing is one that we have enjoyed many mornings and evenings, and so it just made sense to try and keep it rather than spending the money on a new swing right now. Rust-Oleum spray paint offered the perfect solution, and we couldn’t be happier with the end result and the short amount of time it took to get it!

We set up a make shift spray station close to our home’s woods and gave it a wipe down with some a wet rag. While people often have to sand furniture before painting, we opted out of this step to save time and trusted the spray paint would apply just as well. And it did (yay for no sanding!).

My husband then wrapped the swing hardware and chains that hang the swing on our porch. We simply used painter’s tape. Once your swing is wiped down, hardware protected, and you’ve placed it far from any things that could get sprayed, you are ready to begin using the spray paint.

I knew that I wanted a change of color when revamping my outdoor porch swing and this textured dark brown spray was just the look I was going for! My husband applied a light coat for the first round and even my 5 year old son was able to help too!

Just two coats later and we were blown away by the way this Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Heritage spray paint instantly updated our worn swing. It shined so prettily in the sun and the texture element made it look professionally done! I could not have been happier.

We used 6 total cans of spray paint to complete this job. After just a couple of drying hours, my husband simply hung it back up on our porch. To say I was excited is an understatement. This color looks great overall and especially with our home’s brick color. Take a look at the side-by-side before and after collages below.

As I mentioned, the swing looks much more a part of this space too now with the dark brown color coordinating so perfectly with the brick.

Now it was time to place some fall items from JOANN on and around the porch swing area! I found some beautiful fall florals, baskets, fall pillows and blanket to add to the space.

This pumpkin patch pillow found here is adorable and great farmhouse style for our porch. And I fell in love with these wire and wood baskets that are holding those gorgeous faux fall bushes (here, here, and here). This lovely fall plaid blanket is the perfect weight for cooler evenings coming up soon, and I can only imagine how nice it will feel out here during the fall!
