“Your home should tell the story of who you are and be a collection of what you love.” -Nate Berkus

I read this quote and loved it! What does your home say about who you and your family are? I will have to say, I thought about this for a while. My home is decorated in a casual, modern farmhouse style, and it’s my heart’s desire that it provides our family and those who come over with a warm and welcoming feel. As far as it being a collection of what I love, I hope it is that, as well. Now let’s get started!

My husband and I recently visited Charleston, South Carolina. It is such a lovely city, and we fell in love with the historic inn where we stayed. You can read all about our visit here. I was inspired by the way they had styled their piazzas and implemented it on our porch for spring. These Balsam Hill double ball topiaries are sitting inside baskets to give a clean look on both sides of our door. I am enjoying the splashes of yellow with the faux floral swag on these lanterns that have battery-powered candles. Layered rugs are always a good idea, and you can find the two I used here and here.

Cozy tip: Look for topiaries and candles that have a timer option. Set them to turn on in the evening, they will offer an inviting glow to those entering your home.

Having something to hang on your door in the spring is important. It can be a fresh spring wreath or you can use something similar to what I used. This basket is an easy and inexpensive way to change out florals seasonally, or as your own preferences change. You can see that I’ve added the same faux yellow flowers from the lanterns plus some other faux greenery to this basket.

Tip: To see this basket arranged with pink flowers, you can see this DIY I shared here. The options are endless!

Entryway tips and tricks for your spring farmhouse decor:

  • Choose a jute rug and/or runner. They are durable and are a great texture for spring (or any time of the year). My favorites are here and here.

  • Finally, print and frame some photos of your loved ones (we love our large, framed prints of our children; you can print and frame there here)! You can hang them on the wall or create a picture ledge as we have. We have a guide that walks you through step by step on how to create this board and batten wall plus the photo ledge here.

  • Have a place for people to sit with some nice, fresh throw pillows. Look for lighter fabrics that coordinate well with the warmer months like mine here. Pack away chunky knit throws and fuzzy/furry pillows.

  • Place a real or faux plant in a woven basket. Touches of greenery around your home for spring is a simple way to add fresh touches.

One of the collections in our home is signs on the walls with words that have meaning. This “It Is Well” sign (shown here in 40 x 50 with gallery gold frame) is one that speaks to my heart daily, and I hope our family’s too. Below is another smaller collection, which is a set of crocks. They are so fun to decorate with and are inline with farmhouse style. I simply added some green faux stems to them for a simple look.

Tip: For a fuller, more colorful spring farmhouse look, you can head here to see how I incorporated pink florals to these crocks. Again, the possibilities are endless with these vessels.

“Spring: A lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.” – Unknown

Have you seen the look of layering signs on a mantel? It’s one of my favorite ways to style one, and am loving this new (huge!) peony collage sign found here (under the Blossom Collection). It is such a great variation to a sign that has words on it, and what better design than flowers for spring?! I simply layered this sign in front of it, and used my collection of wooden “candlesticks” to anchor the signs.

Looking for an easy, farmhouse style curtain idea? Try dropcloth curtains!

Dropcloth curtain supplies:

  1. Canvas drop cloths found here.

  2. Curtain rings with clips found here.

  3. Curtain rod (love this one here).

Tips: Wash and dry (once) the drop cloths. Hang rods 4-6 inches above your window frame, then hang drop cloths accordingly. You can fold extra fabric over to have a layer around the top of the curtains or turn towards the back of the curtains.

Placing a basket by your fireplace and mantel is perfect to hold pillows and extra blankets. I love this one with the word Vintage on it. For more pillows with words, you can go here.

Just a few short months ago, I had a flocked evergreen wreath hanging here, but for a fresh spring look add a boxwood wreath to your home.

Let’s talk about how important scents can be for our home! Candles are the perfect way to add a fresh and clean scent to your home for spring. I have fallen head over heels with this mango citrus scent and continuing to enjoy the pear candle again this spring as well.

Cozy Tip: Set a bundle of these candles on top of a tray or riser, and add a wood bead garland to complete a cozy and simple vignette for the spring. Your home will smell glorious too.

This time of year is such a great time to have friends and family over! You can enjoy being inside or outside. Decorating tip? I used to think that you couldn’t mix black with dark blue, but times have changed and this combination of these blue plates paired with these black and white check bowls is on-trend. And, a cutting board is a perfect tray to corral items, like the bowls.

Layering tip: Wherever you set out your brunch dishware and food/drinks, adding a table runner adds a finishing touch. I love this tasseled runner shown here on our console table.
