A few nights ago I was driving home with my children in the car and we passed my youngest daughter’s school. I had not noticed this before, but there it was. On the top floor window facing the road, backlight by the lights from the hallway, someone had made a sign out of huge letters taped to the windows: “YOU MATTER.”
Two powerful words. It was almost like someone had just walked up there and taped it just for me to read. There’s so much punch in those two words that it pricked my heart and got me thinking. I realized not only do I need to be reminded of this message daily but so do those around us.
You matter. You truly do. You matter greatly. You matter to so many people around you each day (even if they don’t always remember to tell you). And you matter tremendously to God. The Bible speaks about how valuable you are to Him. Take a moment to read through these verses below:
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12: 6-7
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:14
I hope these words soothe your soul because they soothe mine. These words are so reassuring to me, as there are moments and days when I struggle with my value and worth. Maybe you have these moments too. I think that it’s human nature. It’s easy to question your purpose or your overall value to the world. But what a reminder this message is.
What verses do you cling to when you begin to question your worth or value? How have they helped you get through those moments, days, or even seasons?
