We are so excited to share our summer back porch makeover with you! This back porch was not functioning at all for our family before but now is a retreat where we can spend time together as a family. I am sharing all the details + several decorating tips and must-haves along the way. I know you will be inspired to get your porch summer-ready after seeing this makeover.
For some time our back porch had become an eye soar. Several months ago, we emptied this porch of our old furniture and other items like pots. Our hope was to makeover it one day, but had not had the time or vision yet to do so. I am happy to say that with summer right around the corner, we knew it was time to transform this lifeless space into a cozy oasis for our family to enjoy.
As you can see, some tattered curtains and my husband’s grill is all that remained here. No place to sit and gather or pretty plants to look at yet it is surrounded by these gorgeous trees. I was so excited to partner with Bed Bath & Beyond to bring elements to our front porch that would completely transform this space. Bed Bath & Beyond had everything we needed to decorate our back porch to enjoy and create wonderful memories.
When we were choosing our back porch items, we knew that we wanted a conversation set that included plenty of seating for our family and tables to be able to dine outside too. While an outdoor dining table and chairs are nice, to make the most of our small space, the conversation set met both dining needs and a way to relax too.
We fell in love with this Crosley Bradenton 5-Piece Wicker Loveseat Conversation Set in Sand (loveseat here and similar set here and here). Sitting out here has already been such a wonderful option for our family. We have enjoyed meals, our children doing their schoolwork, and afternoon naps. You can find similar conversation sets here and here.
Because we are a family of six, I found this amazing pouf for additional seating. A pouf provides flexibility to move around easily! My son loves this as “his seat” haha!
To cozy our loveseat and chairs up, I added some pillows and a blanket. These UGG® Summer Knit Square Throw pillows and this UGG® Summer Knit Throw Blanket in Denim are the perfect splash of summer color plus they are so soft!
I also found these Modway Convene Square Outdoor Patio Pillows in White (Set of 2) to place on each chair and in addition to the denim ones on the loveseat. These patio pillows are so lightweight and definitely say summer!
These were the first things to go up when starting our back porch makeover. We love the glow of string lights so we doubled up in our efforts to give our porch that lovely nighttime look. These Outdoor String Lights here are in warm white. We did a simple zig-zag pattern, basing the length they dropped from the ceiling to accommodate our fan.
To ground the space, we added a rug to space. This Miami Sisal 5-Foot 3-Inch x 7-Foot Indoor/Outdoor Rug in Tan is perfect! This rug has a soft feel to it, and with its neutral colors, blends perfectly with everything.
As you can see, we have a wall of outdoor curtains as a backdrop to our porch space. We wanted to create a privacy screen and by adding 4 outdoor curtain panels, it was easy to do and budget-friendly. These Elrene Matine 108-Inch Indoor/Outdoor Tab Top Window Curtain Panel in Ivory are amazing! I already had an existing rod and with these curtains having velcro tab tops, I simply wrapped the tab around the pole and velcroed it in place.
Finishing touches are the planters and pots filled with greenery! Our porch gets a couple of hours of sun but for the most part, it is shady (so nice!). We found some wonderful shade plants to place inside our beautiful planters from Bed Bath & Beyond. I got two of the Campania Linwood Urn Planter in Alpine Stone found here. These are heavy and are the perfect size for a small back porch. And, this Surya Small Decorative Pot in Country Brown/White is stunning! I placed it on the side table to add a splash of greenery in the corner.
My husband and I both agreed, we felt very strongly about keeping our lovely new furniture protected from the weather. We want it to last and take good care of it! We found these great covers for our conversation set pieces here and here. They are very easy to put on and take off. We’ve already put them to good use, and feel they are worth the investment.
That wraps up our summer back porch makeover tour. We couldn’t be more pleased with how all these pieces from Bed Bath & Beyond came together to create a true outdoor retreat right here in our home. I cannot wait for the slow, cozy summer nights out here in the months to come. What do you all think of the before and after transformation? I hope you feel inspired to give it a go with your own porch.
