Welcome, what a joy to have you here! If you are coming from Jenna Kate At Home, wasn’t her deck makeover amazing?!

We are so happy to be opening up our homes to you and sharing easy summer styling tips on this tour.

On my tour, I will be sharing three items you need to get the red, white, and blue look for summer time. But before we get started, I want to thank our tour organizer, Kelly (The Tattered Pew) for the incredible job she did on pulling this all together! It was a huge job and she nailed it.

Back in the Spring, I was trying to decide what direction I wanted to go for summer decor in our home this year (you can see how I styled these spaces for spring here).  After narrowing it down to a few final options, I finally settled on using red, white, and blue as my colors this season. I chose these colors to be my guide for a few reasons:

  1. It fits in nicely with the major summer holiday, July 4th, making it multi-functional.

  2. It adds some splashes of color around our home for the summer months. Having a neutral backdrop (furniture, pillows, sofas, etc.) makes it easy to change around colors throughout the various seasons of the year.

  3. It’s very easy to find in stores and online. Home and crafting supplies stores carry these type of decorations, and often they are very reasonably priced.

As I was designing these spaces, I kept coming back to three items that helped me truly capture the red, white, and blue look in our home.  The three items are:

  • Patriotic Decor

  • Color Themed Pillows

  • Florals

And, a side tip that I kept in mind, was to utilize the 60/30/10 rule when applying this color scheme to our home.  I wanted to use 60% white (neutrals), 30% blue (navy), and 10% red. You may choose to apply the use of the colors differently, but I would definitely encourage you to apply some standard like this when planning your decor choices.

1. Patriotic Decor

With July 4th being the major holiday that is celebrated during the summer months, patriotic themed decor is not only festive but easily found in stores this time of year.  I enjoyed adding splashes of this decor by using bunting, flags, metal stars, and a table runner. There are so many other ways you can add this into your home both inside and out!

2.  Color Themed Pillows

Pillows are an affordable, easy, and stylish way to change up your home decor through the seasons.  I almost always change mine up season to season.  I utilize the same down insert and swap out pillow covers as I did this season.  I chose navy pillow covers (20 x 20) and used two on each sofa.  This was just enough to add the right amount of blue to this otherwise neutral sofa.  I placed fewer pillows on our sofa for summer time, allowing it to feel “lighter” during these hot months.

I spotted this fun navy flag pillow and knew it would be the perfect pop of navy for our entryway bench.  The bonus was that it also fit into the patriotic decor too.

3.  Florals

Utilizing florals and greenery are a staple in my home decor, whether they are faux and/or real. Thus, florals naturally made the list. I chose to use white hydrangeas for their size (large) and beautiful blooms and leaves. These flowers add great texture and dimension to spaces.  I mixed these with other faux stems and greenery I had on hand.

Decorating your home with red, white and blue for the summer doesn’t have to be complicated.  By adding touches of patriotic decor, color themed pillows, and bright florals you can easily achieve the look.

Having your home decorated for the summer in this way is sure to add a touch of fun, nostalgia, and brightness to your home.

Thank you so much for stopping by! Now, I am excited for you to head over to the next blogger on this summer styling tour, my dear friend Lindsay, Aratari At Home.  She is sharing her dining room, and I just know you’ll love what she’s done.  Have a blessed and beautiful day.
