If you are like me, I always enjoy a project that makes you say, “Wow!” when you see the before and the after. Painting DIY projects are a great place to see these moments happen. Taking a space or a piece of furniture from an eyesore or something that is outdated to a beautiful and updated look is so exciting. Often people may be afraid they’ll mess it up, or just concerned they don’t have the right skills to tackle a painting DIY project. But my hope is after today you’ll feel inspired to create one of your own “A-ha!” painting projects!

I have joined up with several blogger friends to share with y’all five painting DIY projects that transform a space or piece of furniture. It’s truly exciting to see what may be right around the corner for you to give a go on with some paint!

This two-part series on painting kitchen cabinets takes you on a step-by-step guide from the original cabinet stained color (in our case walnut color) to the final step of caulking and clean up. In the beginning, we used Kilz primer on all cabinets, drawers, and doors. (Additionally, we had a pretty dated looking travertine backsplash.) After deciding we didn't want to sink our budget by replacing it, we went ahead and painted it. (Kilz Max Primer is excellent for tile.) We then sanded and did two coats of the Magnolia Home By Joanna Gaines Paint in Trim and Cabinetry (we used the Shiplap color), sanding lightly in between each coat. For detail work, we used the Magnolia Home paintbrush (2.5 inches), and for larger areas, we used a paint roller. Head here to check out part one and the before!

We were blown away at how truly transformative painting our cabinets was for our kitchen (Go HERE to see before!).  It was a lengthy project but well worth it.  I cannot wait to walk into our kitchen now, whereas before I felt like it was dark and bland.  Painting your cabinets will truly provide you with a change that is sure to impact your home's beauty.

Happy Happy Nester

The Happy Happy Nester shared how Annie Sloan chalk paint transformed her plastic outdoor chairs here. She talked about how, after just 2-3 coats of this paint, her Adirondack chairs were restored to excellent condition. I love how applying a coat of paint allowed her to keep her current chairs without having to go out and buy new ones! The difference in her before and after is inspiring.

Leslie over at My 100 Year Old Home shared her project here, which was using Old Barn Milk paint and adding ceiling tin to transform a wooden chest. Her goal was to match this wooden chest with the general store counter in her home, which has a white chippy paint look. She was able to achieve that wonderful chippy look with milk paint; it truly looks fantastic. I cannot wait to try her step by step instructions on this process to create my own chippy paint piece!

Krista over at The Happy Housie shared a DIY Chalk Painted Entry Table found here. Krista took a big box store table that was dark brown stained finish to one that is bright and refreshed! She provides terrific tips on how to apply chalk paint and even includes how to apply wax for the finishing touch when using chalk paint. I have a great piece in mind for a piece of furniture I’d like to chalk paint soon, thanks for the inspiration, Krista!

Ashley, over at Modern Glam, shows how to paint your front door in one afternoon here. Ashley has perfected this process, as she has painted her front door several times, and this may be my favorite color she has chosen. She gives detailed step by step instructions and also provides a complete supplies list for painting your front door. In the end, she includes more tips and tricks to do the same in your own home quickly. I think we may need a front door color change now haha!
