Where to stay, what to do, and why this North Carolina escape belongs on every girls’ trip list

If you’re searching for the perfect bachelorette weekend that blends adventure, luxury, and that cozy mountain feel, look no further than Highlands, North Carolina. Tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains, this charming town sits warm but never sweltering in summer; perfect for hikes, swimming holes, and al fresco dining.

We found the most incredible home base for my daugther’s bachlorette trip, Sequoyah Ridge House, a stunning four-bedroom, 3.5-bath mountain home nestled in the woods bordering the Nantahala National Forest, just two miles from downtown Highlands.

With three king bedrooms, a bunk room sleeping four, and a total capacity of 10 guests, it’s ideal for a bachelorette party, girls’ trip, or even a multi-family mountain retreat.

The home features a cozy living room with a wood-burning stone fireplace, a live-edge dining table that seats eight, and a fully stocked kitchen with a large island; perfect for a brunch before a day of adventures.

Outside, a fire pit with string lights and Adirondack chairs set the scene for late-night s’mores and just hanging out. It’s the kind of place that makes everyone not want to leave.

One of my favorite details of the whole weekend? Setting up surprise goodie bags for the girls in that gorgeous dining room. Here’s what we put together:

Highlands is practically made for a summer mountain getaway. Here’s some ideas:
Waterfall Chasing
Dry Falls is a must-see: you can actually walk behind the waterfall without getting soaked, with parking right nearby and a short path down to that one-of-a-kind experience.
Glen Falls offers a three-cascade adventure along a winding forest trail.
Lake Sequoyah
Right down the road from the house, guests can kayak or fish on this gorgeous lake. Perfect for a relaxed morning before downtown fun.

Downtown Highlands
The shopping is absolutely top-notch; nso many boutiques carrying luxurious designer clothing, bags, and jewelry. Who knew a little mountain town would have so much high-end shopping? I wore this Amazon outfit during the day!
Add in spa days at spots like Zen Spa and fine dining options and you have a full girls’ day built in.

Highlands isn’t just a summer destination. In winter, it’s the slowed-down pace that many love; time to read a book, enjoy nature walks, enjoy less crowded restaurants, and so much more.
Winter brings snowy mountains, holiday lights, and fireside meals; and honestly, curling up in front of Sequoyah Ridge’s wood-burning fireplace after a cold day sounds pretty perfect.
